Abstract: Drug nephrotoxicity is an important cause of acute kidney injury, which is associated with significant comorbidity and mortality, es- pecially in high risk groups. The multiplicity of nephrotoxic drugs, useful in severe pediatric in- fections, coupled with the absence of early and independent bio- markers of the state of hydration or nutrition, make it essential to evaluate the risk of the drug and the risk factors of the patient, as well as the adoption of strategies, as there is no specific treatment for acute kidney injury. Nonetheless, acute kidney injury should be recognized early to minimize nephrotoxicity, which may be irreversible and cause future sequelae. Thus, the diagnosis of this entity implies long-term follow-up.
