Purpose
Anomalies of the choroid plexus are common findings on brain examinations. However, and although most of these lesions are benign, distinguishing them from their more ominous aggressive counterparts is not always straightforward. The main goals of this work are to review the spectrum of choroid plexus lesions and discuss their imaging differential diagnosis.
Materials and Methods
A review of our Neuroradiology database was performed for choroid plexus lesions. Best imaging examples were selected.
Results
We present a pictorial review of benign and pathologic choroid plexus lesions, on MRI, including fetal MRI. A systematic imaging approach to diagnosis is performed. Advanced imaging techniques, such as spectroscopy, are also presented. Cases to be shown include: choroid plexus cysts, papilloma and carcinoma, calcifications, xanthogranuloma, Sturge-Weber syndrome, benign villous hyperplasia and choroid plexus metastasis.
Conclusion
MRI is the mainstay of choroid plexus pathology. Knowledge of these entities is essential to a correct diagnosis.
